To be Honest I do not have the best overview of what the book is actually about, the only thing that i know about it is that it is a science fiction, dystopian style novel to where there has been staged attacks on the individuals running the United States, like the president and members of congress. So I’m guessing that after those attacks happen that this book is going to base its self off the new “re-birth” of the country with I’m guessing new societal rules and regulations that might not comply to everyone’s needs, like focusing on women and how they are treated throughout the novel, being stripped of their rights from thee beginning  But Yeah, Honestly i not to sure of what this book is about, but in a couple of weeks I’m going to have finished reading and you guys will see a review in my page shortly after.

Now to finish my blog I’m just going to talk about what i have been doing in school that oddly does have some correlation with the book I’m reading. So what i have been doing in class was to construct an argumentative essay about the Disney movie Mulan, and we touched on the topic of how Chinese culture and tradition make it so that women are looked at as more of a “perfect wife” or “servant wife” to where their displays of honor to their family are based on how well you perform your wifely duties to where a man has to go off into war and protect the empire with their lives. Well all throughout the assignment i had lots of mixed opinions about the whole subject. So if you guys have seen Mulan and know what i am talking about, then leave a comment showing what you guys think about this.

My Soul Is Yours

Hey guys whats happening? Today I’m going to talk about the book i was reading over the break. It is called “On The Devils Court” by Carl Deuker. 252 pages.

I chose to read this book mostly because of the basketball that the novel basically revolves around of. If you are not really a fan of basketball then i wouldn’t really suggest this book, but if you know how the game works and don’t really mind reading over basketball games then you should be just fine.

The book starts off with Joe Faust, who is the main character of the story. Joe had just moved to Seattle with his father from Boston right before his senior year in high school to which he attended a private school. Joe is considered  very shy and to-him-self, he likes to spend most of his time either playing basketball or just hanging in his room. Just before school starts Joe meets some of the local kids in the basketball court and meets Ross. Ross and Joe become really good friends over summer that Joe tires to convince his father to attend public school with Ross but was quickly turned down by his father, kind of making the relationship Joe had with his dad kind of shaky.

Well, school starts and Joe, new to everything, doesn’t really interact the students, sits alone in lunch. To where one day some of his colleagues ask if he plays basketball, and if he was interested in trying out. Joe upon taking the offer to try out for the team was extremely nervous because he didn’t want to bomb the try-outs, which he completely did. After hearing from the coach that he would possibly get into the Junior varsity team from the talent he displayed earlier. So Joe upset with the news from the coach goes out and practices his shots in an abandoned gym to where he goes to play every so often. When suddenly that night he couldn’t stop sinking his shots in. One after another they kept on going in and perfectly rolling back to Joe after every shot. After drowning eight in a row, Joe was aware that there was something OR someone that is granting him with all this talent.

After every shot made the gym basically just got more and more creepier with mist coming in through the doors ,the rain hitting the gym roof. After seeing what was going on , Joe basically knew what was up and blurted out the words ” Give me a full season of power, and my soul is yours.” So… Yeah Joe Faust sold his soul to the devil in exchange for amazing basketball talent, well the rest is kind of predictable but i’m not gonna spoil it.

Now to give my opinion on the book, I honestly think it was a good book all the way through. The only thing that bugged a whole very lot is the fact that this child sold his soul to the devil, you know, FOR ETERNITY in exchange for ONE, UNO, EINS season of high school basketball. Like come on man its eternity where talking about and you just want your powers for 24 games. I don’t know, that’s basically the only thing i didn’t really like about the book other than that, its great! Go read it!
